Abstract

Thresholds for detecting point lights for 569nm and 632nm were measured on backgrounds of various wavelengths. The wavelength at which the L and M cones were equally sensitive was defined to be the background wavelength that raised these thresholds by equal multiples over their dark adapted values. The result is not consistent with the notion that L cones are twice as sensitive as M cones.
