Abstract
This paper (De Valois, Abramov & Jacobs, JOSA, 56, 966–977, 1966) provided a classification of a sample of cells recorded from the macaque monkey LGN that was based on their spectral response patterns. It also offered some possible linkages between the physiological results and several basic indices of color vision. This talk will place this research and the resulting paper in its historical context and suggest why it has had some resonance over the years.
