Due to a coding error, two of the reported parameter values in Table 1 were off by a factor of 2.0 (see Figure 4); we had intended to report the sensory noise, σA±, but instead used the final noise standard deviation, 2σA±. Thus, when fitting the discrimination model (Equation 3), the estimated proportionality kA± was half the size it should have been. Correcting this error by halving the noise estimate makes the estimated proportionality closer to the theoretically derived value of 1.29 (see Discussion: Constant and noise), although it still is smaller than signal detection theory implies. Because the changes to σA± and kA± offset each other, there is no change to the prediction of the pedestal discrimination functions and no change to our main conclusions.
